Exercise Physiology

Accredited Exercise Physiologists prescribing safe, effective exercise for chronic conditions, diabetes, heart health, cancer recovery and injury, in our own supervised gym. Medicare, NDIS, DVA and private health accepted.

What can an Accredited Exercise Physiologist do for you?

Accredited Exercise Physiologists (AEPs) are university-qualified allied health professionals accredited by Exercise & Sports Science Australia (ESSA). They specialise in clinical exercise prescription: using movement as medicine to prevent and manage chronic conditions, safely and progressively.

Who we work with

Our AEPs support people living with type 1 and type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, COPD and asthma, arthritis, osteoporosis, chronic pain, obesity and metabolic conditions, cancer, mental health conditions, and neurological conditions such as Parkinson's disease, MS and stroke.

How a programme runs

Every program starts with a comprehensive assessment, then builds into individualised exercise prescription: supervised one-on-one and small-group sessions in our on-site gym, the Movement is Medicine group program, falls and balance work, and home or gym programs you can carry on independently.

Access and rebates

Medicare rebates apply with a GP Chronic Condition Management Plan, and we welcome NDIS participants, DVA card holders, WorkCover clients and people using private health insurance. Book online or call the clinic nearest you.

What to expect from exercise physiology at PDC Health Hub

What a first appointment with an accredited exercise physiologist in Perth involves, who exercise physiology is for, the conditions we support and how a programme runs, and what Medicare, NDIS, DVA and private health cover. Open each panel for the detail.

What to expect at your first appointment
+

Your initial assessment runs about 45–60 minutes. Your exercise physiologist takes a full health and movement history, assesses your current capacity and goals, then designs a supervised program in our own on-site gym, adjusting it as you build strength and confidence.

Who exercise physiology is for
+

People managing diabetes, heart conditions, respiratory conditions, injury or chronic pain who want to move safely with expert supervision. We also support cancer recovery, osteoporosis and falls prevention, and NDIS participants working towards mobility and independence goals.

Frequently asked questions

Questions about exercise physiology at PDC Health Hub? We’ve answered the most common ones below.

Do I need a GP referral?
+

No referral is required to self-refer to an exercise physiologist. However, to access Medicare rebates under the GPCCMP, your GP will need to prepare a management plan and referral first.

How is an AEP different from a physiotherapist?
+

Exercise physiologists specialise in exercise prescription for chronic disease and rehabilitation. Physiotherapists focus more on hands-on assessment and treatment of musculoskeletal conditions. Both disciplines are complementary and many patients benefit from seeing both.

Are your exercise physiologists credentialled?
+

Yes. All exercise physiologists at PDC Health Hub are Accredited Exercise Physiologists (AEPs), credentialled by Exercise & Sports Science Australia (ESSA). AEP is the recognised standard for exercise physiology practice in Australia.

Do you see NDIS participants?
+

Yes. PDC Health Hub is a registered NDIS provider. Exercise physiology may be funded under Capacity Building or Core supports depending on your NDIS plan and goals.

What should I wear to my appointment?
+

Wear comfortable clothing and supportive footwear suitable for exercise and movement. Bring any relevant medical letters, recent blood test results, and your Medicare and health insurance cards.

How long does the first appointment take?
+

Initial consultations typically run 45–60 minutes. Follow-up sessions are usually 45–60 minutes for supervised exercise or 30 minutes for program review. Your AEP will guide you on recommended review frequency.
