Understanding the condition

Chronic pain is pain that lasts, or keeps coming back, for more than three months.1 It is real, it is common, and it is shaped by physical, lifestyle and emotional factors working together, which is why a team approach works best.2

Our physiotherapists and exercise physiologists help you understand your pain, rebuild movement and strength step by step, and find practical ways back to the things that matter to you.34 Where psychological care would help, we arrange it with your GP.

Common questions

Will exercise make my pain worse?
+

Carefully graded movement, guided by our team, usually improves chronic pain over time rather than worsening it.

Is my pain all in my head?
+

No. Chronic pain is real. The nervous system plays a part in how pain is felt, which is why combining physical and psychological approaches works well.

Do I need a referral?
+

No referral is needed for private appointments. With a GP Chronic Condition Management Plan, Medicare rebates apply to up to five eligible allied health visits a calendar year.

What should I bring to my first appointment?
+

Any scans, reports or medicine lists you have, plus comfortable clothes you can move in.

Is telehealth available?
+

Yes, many of our services are available by phone or video where appropriate.

Not sure where to start?

Tell us what is going on and we will point you to the right discipline, or to more than one. Most people start with a single appointment and leave with a plan the rest of the team can see.
