Medicare allied health visits

With a GP Chronic Condition Management Plan and a referral from your GP, you can claim a Medicare rebate for up to five individual allied health visits each calendar year, shared across services such as diabetes education, dietetics, exercise physiology, physiotherapy and podiatry.

Also called
Medicare allied health, Medicare referral, five Medicare sessions, Medicare rebate physio, Medicare rebate podiatry, Medicare rebate dietitian, chronic condition allied health items
Formerly called
EPC referral, Enhanced Primary Care

What it means

The five visits are a combined total for the year, not five per profession. Each visit must last at least 20 minutes. Most can be in person, and many can also be by video or phone.

The rebate is a fixed amount, so you pay the difference if the practice's fee is higher. After your first visit and your last visit in a course of care, the allied health professional sends a written report back to your GP.

People living with type 2 diabetes can also claim up to eight Medicare-rebated group sessions a year, on top of the five individual visits.

At PDC Health Hub
PDC Health Hub accepts Medicare referrals for diabetes education, dietetics, exercise physiology, physiotherapy and podiatry.
