Glucose tablets, gels, chews and ready-made hypo kits for treating a low. These are private purchase items and are not NDSS subsidised.
Overview
Hypoglycaemia, or a hypo, is a blood glucose level below 4.0 mmol/L. It is treated with fast-acting carbohydrate, followed by a recheck after 15 minutes, and repeated if the level is still low.
The products here are measured doses of glucose, so you know how much you have taken. That matters, because guessing tends to lead to over-treating and a high later on.
Hypo treatments are not subsidised through the NDSS. They are private purchase items and are priced accordingly.
Anyone using insulin or a sulfonylurea should carry fast-acting glucose, and it is worth keeping a second supply in the car, at work and beside the bed.
Buying guide
Choose something you will actually carry.
If you are having hypos often, or without warning, book a review rather than simply buying more treatment.
What you pay depends on your NDSS entitlement, so choose an option on a card to see its price before adding it to the cart. Concession, Closing the Gap, DVA and private purchase prices all differ, and eligibility is verified before dispensing.

PDC Health Hub is an NADC accredited Secondary Diabetes Centre in East Victoria Park. The clinicians who supply your consumables can also help you get more out of them, whether that is a pump review, a foot check or working out how food and activity fit around your glucose levels.
Call Pharmacy 777 Bedford and describe your meter, pump or sensor. Our pharmacists are Credentialled Diabetes Educators and will confirm exactly which product fits before you order.
