Sensors and transmitters that track glucose continuously, day and night, so you can see where your levels are heading rather than only where they were.
Overview
Continuous glucose monitoring uses a small sensor worn on the body to measure glucose in the fluid just under the skin. Readings appear on a reader, a phone or a compatible insulin pump, usually every few minutes.
Because CGM shows the direction and speed of change rather than a single number, it can pick up overnight lows and post-meal rises that finger prick checks miss. Most people use it alongside a meter rather than instead of one, because a finger prick is still needed when a reading does not match how you feel.
CGM and Flash GM products are subsidised through the NDSS. Eligibility was expanded on 1 July 2022 so that all people with type 1 diabetes can access subsidised products.
Whether you pay a co-payment depends on your concessional status. People holding a Commonwealth Seniors Health Card, Commonwealth Pensioner Concession Card, Commonwealth Health Care Card, DVA Gold Card or DVA White Card, and people who identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander, can access fully subsidised products with no co-payment. Safety Net Concession and Safety Net Entitlement Cards are not included.
Access forms are completed with an authorised health professional. Our Credentialled Diabetes Educators can complete these with you.
Buying guide
Start with what your sensor needs to talk to. If you use an insulin pump with automated insulin delivery, the pump will only work with specific sensors, so check compatibility before ordering.
If you are not sure, call us and describe the device you use. It is quicker than guessing.
What you pay depends on your NDSS entitlement, so choose an option on a card to see its price before adding it to the cart. Concession, Closing the Gap, DVA and private purchase prices all differ, and eligibility is verified before dispensing.

PDC Health Hub is an NADC accredited Secondary Diabetes Centre in East Victoria Park. The clinicians who supply your consumables can also help you get more out of them, whether that is a pump review, a foot check or working out how food and activity fit around your glucose levels.
Call Pharmacy 777 Bedford and describe your meter, pump or sensor. Our pharmacists are Credentialled Diabetes Educators and will confirm exactly which product fits before you order.
