Blood glucose and ketone test strips for finger prick checks, matched to your meter. Strips are not interchangeable between brands.
Overview
Blood glucose monitoring strips work with a meter to measure glucose in a small drop of blood from a finger prick. They remain the standard check for anyone using insulin, and they are still needed alongside continuous glucose monitoring when a sensor reading does not match how you feel.
Each strip is made for a specific meter. A strip from one brand will not give an accurate result, or any result at all, in another brand's meter.
Strips are subsidised through the NDSS for registered users. In any 180 day period you can obtain up to 900 strips.
If you have type 2 diabetes and do not use insulin, you can access strips when a health professional has advised you to check your glucose levels. An initial six month supply is approved using an NDSS form, and the NDSS currently states that you do not need to apply for an extension beyond that initial six months.
If you are unsure about your access status, the NDSS Helpline is 1800 637 700.
Buying guide
Match the strip to the meter, then check the dates.
What you pay depends on your NDSS entitlement, so choose an option on a card to see its price before adding it to the cart. Concession, Closing the Gap, DVA and private purchase prices all differ, and eligibility is verified before dispensing.
