Finger prick meters for checking blood glucose, and some that check blood ketones too. Choose the meter first, then the strips that match it.
Overview
A blood glucose meter reads a small drop of blood from a finger prick on a test strip and shows the result in seconds. It remains the standard check for anyone using insulin, and it is still needed alongside continuous glucose monitoring when a sensor reading does not match how you feel.
Some meters also measure blood ketones with a separate ketone strip. That matters for people living with type 1 diabetes during illness, or when glucose stays high.
Meters are not supplied through the NDSS. The test strips that go with them are NDSS subsidised for registered users.
Many meters are available at no cost through your diabetes educator, so it is worth asking us before you buy one.
Buying guide
Start with the strips, because you will buy those for as long as you use the meter.
If you are not sure which suits you, our Credentialled Diabetes Educators can help you choose and set it up.
What you pay depends on your NDSS entitlement, so choose an option on a card to see its price before adding it to the cart. Concession, Closing the Gap, DVA and private purchase prices all differ, and eligibility is verified before dispensing.

PDC Health Hub is an NADC accredited Secondary Diabetes Centre in East Victoria Park. The clinicians who supply your consumables can also help you get more out of them, whether that is a pump review, a foot check or working out how food and activity fit around your glucose levels.
Call Pharmacy 777 Bedford and describe your meter, pump or sensor. Our pharmacists are Credentialled Diabetes Educators and will confirm exactly which product fits before you order.
