RIPSNORE is a boil-and-bite mouthpiece, also called a mandibular advancement splint. It holds the lower jaw slightly forward during sleep, which moves the base of the tongue away from the airway. The manufacturer states it is for reducing snoring.

  • Moulded to your teeth at home: soften it in hot water, then bite
  • Made from BPA-free Dynaflex plastic
  • Front air intake openings, so you can still breathe through your mouth
  • Listed on the ARTG as a Class 1 medical device (ARTG 156350)

How to fit

Follow the fitting instructions in the pack. A white spacer keeps the front breathing holes open while you mould the device, and is removed before you sleep. If it falls out, the manufacturer advises re-moulding it and biting more firmly.

Before you buy

Snoring can be a sign of obstructive sleep apnoea. If you snore loudly, stop breathing in your sleep, or wake unrefreshed, see your GP or our Sleep Clinic first. If sleep apnoea has already been diagnosed, talk to your sleep physician before using a splint instead of CPAP. Splints may not suit people with dentures, loose teeth, gum disease or jaw joint problems. Check with your dentist if any of these apply.

Care

Rinse after each use, clean it as described in the instructions, and store it dry in its case, away from heat.

Funding

A private purchase.

Questions

Will it stop my snoring?
It works for many people, but not everyone. Results depend on the cause of the snoring.

Is a sore jaw normal at first?
Some people notice mild jaw or tooth tenderness in the first few nights. If it continues or is painful, stop using it and see your dentist.

Always read the label and follow the directions for use.
