The ResMed Chin Restraint is a soft strap that helps hold your mouth closed during CPAP or bilevel therapy. It is for people using a nasal or nasal pillows mask who tend to breathe through their mouth during sleep.

  • Neoprene, with a soft chin cup and a stretchy side strap
  • Adjusts with Velcro fastenings at the top of the head
  • Can be worn under or over most CPAP mask headgear
  • ResMed states it can reduce air swallowing and a dry mouth and throat from mouth leaks

Size and fit

One size, adjusted with the Velcro. For the best support, sit the top strap well forward on your head. This holds the chin up rather than pulling it back.

Choosing and fitting

A dry mouth or mask leaks can also come from a mask that does not fit well. Our Sleep Clinic can check your mask fit and help you decide whether a chin restraint or a different mask style suits you.

Care

Wash in warm water with a mild detergent, rinse well and leave to dry.

Funding

A private purchase.

Questions

Can I use it with a full face mask?
It is designed for nasal and nasal pillows masks. A full face mask already covers the mouth.

Why do I wake with a dry mouth on CPAP?
With a nasal mask, air can escape through an open mouth and dry it out. A chin restraint helps keep the mouth closed. If it keeps happening, talk to our Sleep Clinic.

Always read the label and follow the directions for use.
