Orthostep Tall Walker

The Orthostep Tall Walker is a tall walking boot, often called a moon boot or CAM walker. It supports and protects the lower leg, ankle and foot after injury or surgery, when your clinician advises one.

Intended use

The maker lists ankle and foot strains and sprains, and mild, stable ankle and foot fractures. It is also listed for acute ankle and foot injuries, and care after surgery.

Sizes

Choose by foot length or US shoe size. Small fits a foot 22 to 26 cm long (US men's 4.5 to 7, women's 6 to 8). Medium fits 26 to 28 cm (men's 7.5 to 10.5, women's 8.5 to 11.5). Large fits 28 to 30 cm (men's 10.5 to 12.5, women's 11.5 to 13.5).

Fitting

A walker boot is usually fitted by a clinician. Our PDC Health Hub podiatrists and physiotherapists can fit it. Follow your treating clinician's advice on how long to wear it. If you live with diabetes or have foot problems, have your footwear checked by a podiatrist before you start wearing it.

A private purchase. Some private health insurance extras policies may contribute, so check with your fund.

It is designed for walking, with a rocker sole. Your clinician will tell you how much weight to put through the foot.
