The Hushd splint is a mouthguard-style device worn at night. It holds the lower jaw slightly forward, which helps keep the airway open during sleep. The manufacturer states it is for snoring and for mild to moderate obstructive sleep apnoea.
Snoring can be a sign of obstructive sleep apnoea. If you snore loudly, stop breathing in your sleep, or wake unrefreshed, see your GP or our Sleep Clinic first. If sleep apnoea has already been diagnosed, talk to your sleep physician before using a splint instead of CPAP. Splints may not suit people with dentures, loose teeth, gum disease or jaw joint problems, so check with your dentist if any of these apply.
Rinse after each use and clean as described in the instructions. Replace it when it is worn or no longer fits well.
A private purchase.
Will it stop my snoring?
It works for many people, but not everyone. Results depend on the cause of the snoring.
How is it different from a custom splint?
A custom splint is made by a dentist from a scan or impression of your teeth, and lasts longer. The Hushd boil-and-bite is a lower-cost way to see whether a splint helps.
Always read the label and follow the directions for use.
