The BD AutoShield Duo is a 30G x 5mm safety pen needle. After the injection, shields automatically cover both ends of the needle. This helps protect carers and health professionals who give injections from needlestick injury.

BD states the AutoShield Duo is compatible with widely used insulin pens. Check your pen instructions, or ask us if you are unsure.

Choosing and fitting

ADEA injection technique guidance (2019) recommends 4mm or 5mm pen needles for all adults. It also notes safety pen needles can help people who find changing needles hard because of dexterity or vision. BD notes a lifted skin fold may be needed for children aged 6 or under and very thin adults. Our Credentialled Diabetes Educators can show you how to use it, in person or by telehealth.
