Our dietitians are Accredited Practising Dietitians (APDs). The APD program is run by Dietitians Australia and is the dietetic credential the Australian Government recognises for Medicare and DVA.

In plain English
Dietetics is not registered through Ahpra. The profession is self-regulated through the National Alliance of Self Regulating Health Professions, and the APD credential is how a qualified dietitian shows they meet the national standard.
To join the APD program a dietitian must hold an accredited university degree in nutrition and dietetics. The credential is recognised by Medicare, the Department of Veterans' Affairs, many state governments and private health insurers.
Dietetics under a GP Chronic Condition Management Plan is claimed through Medicare item 10954, and it has to be delivered by an APD.
Keeping it current
APD status is not for life. A dietitian keeps it only by taking part in ongoing training and education throughout their career.
Dietitians Australia publishes a public register of Accredited Practising Dietitians, so you can check any of our dietitians by name.
