Diabetes Stigma

Stigma is one of the most overlooked challenges faced by people living with diabetes.

It can show up in every day conversations, in the media, in workplaces, in healthcare settings – and even within the diabetes community itself.

At PDC Health Hub, we believe that no one with diabetes should ever feel ashamed, blamed, dismissed, or excluded because of their condition.

This National Diabetes Week 2025, we’re proud to lead a bold, national conversation on diabetes stigma by launching our official Position Statement on Diabetes Stigma.

We’re calling on all health professionals, diabetes organisations, peak bodies, community leaders, and supporters to co-sign this statement and stand with us - and the diabetes community.

What the PDC Health Hub Diabetes Stigma Statement stands for:

  • Respectful, person-centred diabetes care
  • A commitment to using stigma-free, inclusive language
  • Rejecting blame and shame - in all its forms
  • Supporting people with all types of diabetes
  • Collective action against diabetes stigma
